I began stenciling with mud to put environmentally conscious messages in public spaces.  I use mud or earth because it is a fundamental life-giving substance, logical for my messages. Mud stencils are an evolving medium, intended for art and social justice, not corporate advertisement.  I am an artist and maker based in Milwaukee Wisconsin I can be reached at jessegraves@gmail.com.

You what, industrial farming makes me think of my dead grandmother. I used to think that planting in the middle of the city is a silly idea. But now, I realize her effort is way advanced than anyone else. I was 6 years old then, now I’m 28….

I just went on a walk and had the same idea to use mud instead of paint. I am glad others have already though of the idea.

Keep up the cool work!

Read about your Tamms protest stencils in Utne Reader-hope it helps bring attn to this horror. Maybe others will ‘catch the bug’ (or mud!) & do the same for other causes. Thanks for the mobile site, too!

Hi! I found your graffitis in Inhabitat web, and I love it! : ) I think they are a simple and great idea with powerful messages, and I have wanted to put it into practice in my city (Madrid, Spain), because the moss here is protected, because it is scarce, and is not an option to make graffiti green : )
I also Beet seems an interesting option, I’ll try with it : )
